Tap is Tapped Out

Wish I had stayed in and feasted on my leftovers of spaghetti with mushroom and spinach marinara for lunch today, but co-workers tempted me to try this new gastro pub (Tap) a few blocks away on Peachtree St. I was not impressed. I ordered the fish and chips. Nothing remarkable here. Fish was fried in a weird batter, not the light airy, London like goodness I was expecting. It was actually too flaky and easily fell apart. The tarter sauce was edible but nothing to write home about. Fries were again Ok but nothing special and definitely not worth the $14 I ended up paying for a lunchtime portion of fish and chips. My lunch mates had similar experiences, a mediocre burger, a ho hum salad and a misguided smokey tomato and watermelon mixture that ended up trying a little too hard. Food should excite, especially in this competitive market and sadly Tap does little towards that end. It might bode well to take the gastro out of the pub and capitalize on alcohol sales. You can't screw beer up, or can you?
