Starting Labor Day Weekend Off Right

It's Friday the beginning of a long Labor Day weekend and what better way to kick off the celebration than with some good ole southern BBQ.  A 40 minute trip to Griffin, GA landed us among NASCAR fans this race weekend at McGhin's Southern Pit Bar-B-Que.  This kitschy spot (think baseball caps and license plates plastered to the walls) with a toy train circling the dining room, is the home of some really decent grub.  I had the small pork plate which allowed me generous samplings of chopped pork, brunswick stew, coleslaw and crackling bread.  The pork was tender and moist covered in a tangy BBQ sauce, the brunswick stew was near perfect with tender bits of corn, tomato and pork throughout and the crackling bread was a savory addition for soaking up all the loving.  The coleslaw was perhaps my least favorite, its mushy, soupy consistency just not to my liking.  The menu is loaded with other BBQ faves such as baby back ribs, BBQ beans, BBQ chicken and BBQ sandwiches.  It's quite a hop, skip and a jump from Atlanta but if you find yourself in the area (it's about 5 miles from the Atlanta Motor Speedway) it certainly is a worthwhile place to enjoy some authentic southern BBQ.
